The Dangers of Smoking

Islam prohibits its ummah from doing things that can give bad effect on health. Taking care of one’s life is one of the five basic things to achieve the benefits of this world and the hereafter aside from looking after religion, mind, descendants and property. Among the bad practices that can harm the health of the body and life is smoking. The matter was among the content of Friday Sermon titled “The Dangers of Smoking”.

Based on information from the Ministry of Health, smoking is a major factor in non-communicable diseases such as cancer, heart disease, stroke, diabetes and chronic respiratory diseases. These diseases are the five main causes of death in the country, where lung cancer is the highest cancer in Brunei Darussalam and smoking is the main cause of lung cancer. The prayer leader reminded that the dangers of smoking can be fatal, not only to the smoker, but also to people close to the smoker. Therefore, let’s all take reasonable steps to combat the spread of smoking, we pray that our efforts will be blessed by Allah SWT and that our lives will be happy and safe in this world and the hereafter.
