4 Vietnamese posing as returning tourists barred at NAIA

MANILA: Immigration officers at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) barred four Vietnamese nationals from entering the country who pretended to be revisiting tourists but are suspected of illegally seeking to work in the country.

In a news release Tuesday, Bureau of Immigration (BI) Commissioner Norman Tansingco said three male Vietnamese — Truong Quang Than, 28; Bui Van Chi, 36; Ngo Dan Tuong, 22; and a female identified as Nguyen Hoang Minh Huy, 19, were intercepted at the NAIA Terminal 1 on Monday.

The four arrived on board a Philippine Airlines flight from Hanoi and claimed that they were tourists.

However, during a secondary inspection, immigration personnel said the individuals gave inconsistent statements. They previously had prolonged stays in the country for up to seven months.

One of them eventually admitted to having worked in a catering business during his previous stay in the country, without securing a proper visa.

‘Our country is a no-go zone for those who use tourism as a cover
for such schemes. Aliens who attempt to enter to abuse the country’s hospitality will be denied entry,’ Tansingco said.

The foreigners were placed on the BI’s blacklist, barring them permanently from re-entering the Philippines.
