9.2K Surigao Sur town residents get P16-M payout from DSWD

BUTUAN CITY: At least 9,202 residents in the Surigao del Sur town of Lingig received payments of over PHP16.1 million for rendering five days of community service recently under the government's cash-for-work program. In a statement on Wednesday, the Department of Social Welfare and Development in the Caraga Region (DSWD-13) said the payments were released to the beneficiaries in a three-day payout activity that culminated on Tuesday. "Each of the beneficiaries received PHP1,750 payments for the services they rendered in their respective communities in five days," the DSWD-13 said. The series of payouts was carried out under DSWD's Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan - Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (KALAHI-CIDSS)-Kapangyarihan at Kaunlaran sa Barangay Cash-for-Work (KKB-CFW) Program. The KKB-CFW program aims to provide short-term employment opportunities for residents facing community income challenges. Nita, 37, a mother of three, said the KKB-CFW program has given her some relief due to her family's financial difficulties. "My husband, a motorcycle driver, has stopped working for nearly a month now due to an illness. The KKB-CFW came timely as my family needs support, especially for our children's food and other needs," Nita, who requested not to mention her full name, said in a phone interview on Wednesday. She expressed gratitude to the government for the five-day services she rendered in their community, which made her earn extra income. Source: Philippines News Agency
