Brunei and Germany Discuss Strengthening Bilateral Cooperation

Berlin: His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam attended a bilateral meeting with the Federal President of the Federal Republic of Germany. His Majesty expressed appreciation for Germany's support and contribution to Brunei's development, including collaborations like the Muara Maritime Services joint venture and Lufthansa Technik in the aviation sector, as well as the successful operations of the Brunei Fertilizer plant.

According to Radio Television Brunei, His Majesty acknowledged the close cooperation between Brunei and Germany in international forums, notably at the United Nations. He reaffirmed Brunei's support for Germany's candidacy for non-permanent membership of the United Nations Security Council for the term 2027-2028. In return, he appreciated Germany's support for Brunei's candidacy for the Vice-Presidency of the United Nations General Assembly for the term 2028-2029.

On regional and international matters, His Majesty shared updates on ASEAN and voiced concern regarding developments in the Middle East, Palestine, and Lebanon, emphasizing their global implications. He reaffirmed support for an independent State of Palestine based on a two-state solution with pre-1967 borders. His Majesty expressed eagerness to continue efforts with European partners to alleviate tensions and uphold United Nations principles.

During the meeting, discussions included upcoming engagements, visits to German companies like Lufthansa Technik, and prospects for increased industrial and defense cooperation. The leaders highlighted the importance of deeper ASEAN-EU cooperation to promote regional stability amid global tensions. His Majesty extended an invitation to the Federal President for a State Visit to Brunei Darussalam.
