Bandar seri begawan: His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam attended a Bilateral Meeting with His Excellency Doctor Tamas Sulyok, President of Hungary. During the meeting, His Majesty expressed hope that the active interaction between the two Foreign Ministers would continue to contribute to the positive momentum of bilateral relations. This includes the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding on the Establishment of Bilateral Consultations, marking a significant step towards strengthening dialogue, understanding, and cooperation between the two nations, especially in investment, education, energy, and capacity building to support Brunei Darussalam’s economic diversification beyond the oil and gas sector.

According to Radio Television Brunei, His Majesty also expressed appreciation to the Hungarian Government for scholarships provided to the first group of Brunei Darussalam students and welcomed Hungarian students to further their studies in Brunei Darussalam. In the tourism sector, His Majesty endorsed the facilitation of visa-waiver arrangements and expressed hope for ongoing cultural, youth, and professional exchanges to deepen people-to-people ties between Brunei and Hungary.

The leaders exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual interest, including developments in ASEAN, the ASEAN-EU dialogue relationship, and Hungary’s role in these contexts. His Majesty welcomed Hungary’s participation in the 25th ASEAN-EU Ministerial Meeting, which Brunei Darussalam will host in April 2026 as the Coordinating Country.

His Majesty also addressed climate change, emphasizing the need for continued collective efforts. He noted that the ASEAN Centre for Climate Change in Brunei Darussalam would serve as a regional initiative to tackle environmental issues and welcomed Hungary’s support in research, data sharing, and capacity building related to sustainability.
