Brunei Speaker Engages with International Diplomats to Strengthen Bilateral Ties

Bandar seri begawan: The Speaker of the Legislative Council recently engaged in a series of courtesy calls with international diplomats, aimed at fortifying bilateral relationships and exploring collaborative opportunities. The meetings were held at the Dewan Majlis Building.

According to Radio Television Brunei, the Speaker, Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Lela Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdul Rahman bin Dato Setia Haji Mohamed Taib, first met with His Excellency Ramu Abbagani, High Commissioner of India to Brunei Darussalam. Their discussions centered around enhancing cooperative relations to support Wawasan Brunei 2035. The focus was on boosting business activities, investments, and technology integration, particularly in the oil and gas sector. They also discussed strengthening legislative relations and underscored the significance of the enduring relationship between Brunei and India.

In a separate meeting, His Excellency Weert Borner, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Germany, discussed strengthening bilateral cooperation in strategic sectors such as technology and education. The dialogue also included exchanges on regional and global issues, with both parties affirming their commitment to enhancing the partnership between the Legislative Council and the German Bundestag.

The final courtesy call was with His Excellency Tran Anh Vu, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. Both parties expressed appreciation for the accomplishments made since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1992. Discussions included the close cooperation between the Legislative Council and Vietnam's National Assembly, and they recalled the official visit by the Vice Chairman of Vietnam's National Assembly in 2024. Datin Paduka Doctor Dayang Hajah Huraini binti Pehin Orang Kaya Setia Jaya Dato Paduka Awang Haji Hurairah, Clerk to the Privy Council, Secretary to the Cabinet Ministers' Council, and Clerk to the Legislative Council, was also present during these meetings.
