Bulacan’s 30 villages considered dengue hotspots

CITY OF MALOLOS: Around 30 villages in Bulacan province have been identified as dengue hotspots due to an increasing number of cases in the past weeks. Governor Daniel Fernando called on Bulakenyos on Wednesday to exercise the 5S Strategies advocated by the Provincial Health Office to prevent the spread of the mosquito-borne disease. "These are the Search and destroy of breeding sites, Self-protection measures, Seek early consultations, Support fogging or spraying during impending outbreak, and Sustain Hydration," Fernando said as he led the distribution of food packs to flood victims in Barangay Liputan, Meycauayan City. The affected villages are located in the towns of Angat, Santa Maria, Marilao, Calumpit, Bulakan, Bustos, Pandi, Paombong, and San Ildefonso, and the cities of Meycauayan, San Jose del Monte and Malolos. According to the latest dengue advisory of the Provincial Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (PESU), 3,805 suspected dengue cases were reported in the province since January 2024, which is 85 percent higher compared to the figures during the same period last year. Six dengue-related deaths have been recorded since the start of the year. Fernando reminded residents to maintain a clean environment and get rid of stagnant water inside and outside their houses. 'Aside from the caution we are taking, it's also important that if someone is experiencing symptoms such as fever for more than two days, to immediately seek consultation at our health centers or district hospital so that treatment could begin at once and a bigger problem could be avoided),' he said in Filipino.
