Calabarzon police’s bomb-sniffing dog bows out of service

CALAMBA CITY: Law enforcers’ best friend has started his much-deserved retirement after surviving five years with the Police Regional Office-Calabarzon (PRO Calabrazon).

Jack, a 7 and 1/2-year-old Labrador Retriever assigned to the Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Canine Group, was given a send-off ceremony worthy of any law enforcer who served the country well.

Col. Christopher Abrecia, acting regional director for administration, said Jack is officially retired from police service effective June 1.

In retirement ceremonies held at Camp Vicente Lim here, Jack even received a plaque of recognition.

“In bidding farewell to Jack, we express not only our gratitude but also our admiration for his faithful service, loyalty, and sacrifices made for our safety and security,” Abrecia said in a statement Saturday.

Jack’s handler, S/Staff Sgt. Shane Angelo Parreno, also received cash as she gets to keep the K-9.

Abrecia explained that while Jack did not wear a numbered badge like his human counterparts, he was imp
lanted with a microchip number.

The honors extended to this vital member of the bomb squad was part of the Philippine National Police’s “Salamat, kaibigan (Thank you, friend)’ program.
