Cautions Issued on Price-Setting Restrictions at Brunei Events

Bandar seri begawan: Event organisers and participating vendors at food festivals, pop-up markets, and similar events are reminded to comply with the Competition Act (Chapter 253) and avoid price coordination practices. The warning was issued by the Competition Commission of Brunei Darussalam, CCBD.

According to Radio Television Brunei, the CCBD stressed that the terms set by organisers for participating vendors may sometimes restrict how those vendors price their goods, such as by requiring a minimum selling price. Terms of this nature raise concerns under Section 11 of the Competition Act, which prohibits agreements that prevent, restrict, or distort competition, including those that fix prices. Event organisers should therefore avoid including terms and conditions such as minimum prices, recommended prices, or any other terms that influence how vendors set their prices based on their own costs and business judgment.
