The city government has started its massive preparation to make the Palarong Pambansa 2024 hosting memorable for all the student-athletes. Mayor Michael Rama introduced Monday the members of the technical working team who will work on all aspects of the preparation. The team, he said, will be headed by the chair of the Cebu City Sports Commission, businessman and sports columnist John Pages, and some officials of the Cebu City Hall as members. "The convergence will soon meet to discuss the details of the preparation," Rama said. Pages said about 40,000 individuals from all over the Philippines are expected to visit Cebu next year to witness the premier sports event of student-athletes in the elementary and secondary ranks. "We are so happy and blessed to announce that next year in July, 12,000 athletes and over 25,000 visitors will come to Cebu City for the Palarong Pambansa 2024," he said. On Friday, Cebu City won the bid to host the biggest sports event beating Antique and Negros Occidental. Pages cited Rama's all-out support in the bid to get the hosting privilege after Marikina City's hosting of the sports event this year. He also cited the regional director of the Department of Education (DepEd), Salustiano Jimenez, in helping the team submit their proposal to the central office.
