Bandar seri begawan: A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in the Prime Minister's Office and the National Narcotics Board (BNN) of the Republic of Indonesia, marking a significant step towards enhancing collaboration in combating drug abuse within the ASEAN region. The agreement aims to facilitate the exchange of information, expertise, and best practices in drug law enforcement, prevention education, and the treatment and rehabilitation of drug addiction. The signing ceremony took place at the Balai Khazanah Islam Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah.
According to Radio Television Brunei, Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Zalani bin Haji Ismail, Director of NCB, represented Brunei Darussalam, while Police Inspector General Drs. Agus Irianto, Deputy for Legal Affairs and Cooperation, represented Indonesia. The event was also attended by Zulhusam bin Haji Abdul Samad, Acting Permanent Secretary for Security and Law at the Prime Minister's Office, and His Excellency Professor Dr. Achmad Ubaedillah, Indonesian Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam.
In addition to the signing, the Deputy for Legal Affairs and Cooperation, BNN, delivered a talk titled 'Indonesia's Experience: Evolving Drug Trafficking Trends, Transnational Syndicate and Operational Responses'. This presentation highlighted Indonesia's experience in addressing drug trafficking and the operational measures taken against transnational syndicates.
Before the MoU signing, Police Inspector General Drs. Agus Irianto met with the Acting Permanent Secretary for Security and Law at the Prime Minister's Office. During this meeting, both parties discussed current drug-related issues and considered ways to enhance bilateral cooperation in addressing drug-related crimes.
