ILOILO CITY: The Department of Education (DepEd) 6 (Western Visayas) said more learners in the region are joining this year's voluntary national learning camp. Compared with last year's record of 117,084 learners, DepEd-6 information officer Hernani Escullar Jr. said Thursday that more learners from Grades 1 to 10 are joining the learning camp. Escullar noted that although there is no actual figure as to the total number of participants, based on their initial record, 141,509 learners from Grades 1 to 3 are joining the English class and 141,631 for Mathematics. For Grades 7 to 10 or junior high school, there are 73,234 for English, 72,007 for Mathematics, and 46,626 for Science. Escullar said each learner could enroll in two subjects. 'It has a big impact on our participating learners. We have three camps - enhancement, consolidation, and intervention. Once they join the camps, our learners will not have difficulty coping with their competencies in their next grade level,' he said. The enhancement and c onsolidation camps have portions where children will have an overview of their next grade level, so long as it is within the bounds of the learning guide. 'Intervention is designed for learners who have low grades, but not failing, in certain subject areas,' he explained. DepEd data showed that more learners are joining the intervention camp compared with the other two camps. He added that teachers joining the camp are volunteers but they would be earning credits for their services. A total of 3,861 schools are joining this year's camp, compared to 1,592 schools last year. Source: Philippines News Agency
