Legazpi: The Department of Social Welfare and Development in Bicol (DSWD-5) continues to distribute family food packs and non-food items to families affected by Severe Tropical Storm Enteng in different provinces of the region. In an interview on Friday, Carl James Cabarles, DSWD-5 disaster risk reduction and management division information officer, said they already distributed 61,736 family food packs to affected families in the six provinces worth PHP43,670,445.88 and non-food items worth PHP69,192. for a total of over PHP43.7 million. "The food packs were directly augmented to the affected local government units, then they distributed it with the guidance of DSWD staff on the grounds. Each family received one food pack," he said. A family food pack contains 6 kilograms of rice, 10 canned goods, five sachets of coffee, and five sachets of cereal drink, enough to sustain a family of five for two days. Cabarles said there were also other forms of aid provided by the agency such as the Assistance to Indiv iduals in Crisis Situation social welfare service. He noted that they continue to monitor internally displaced families in all remaining open evacuation centers. A total of 1,593 families, or 5,562 persons, are inside 107 evacuation centers, while 819 families, or 4,033 persons, are with their friends or relatives.
