Enforcement Action Taken Against Companies for Illegal Waste Disposal in Tutong District

Tutong: The Enforcement Unit of the Tutong District Office has issued a stern reminder to the public, companies, and business owners to maintain environmental cleanliness by refraining from dumping rubbish in business premises and public areas. This warning comes in light of the Miscellaneous Offences Act, Chapter 30, Section 12-1, which prescribes penalties for such actions.

According to Radio Television Brunei, the reminder follows an incident where VAITHI AUTOMOBILE SERVICES Sendirian Berhad was fined $4,000 BND for illegally using government land as a dumping ground. The company has been instructed to clean up the site and pay the fine within seven days. Failure to comply will result in court proceedings where, if found guilty, the company could face a fine of no less than $30,000 BND, imprisonment for up to 12 months, or both. This penalty was imposed during 'Operasi Bersih', an operation targeting the Kampung Mulaut Area, conducted by the Licensing and Enforcement Division of the Brunei Muara District Office.

In a separate incident, TERATAI Mekar Sendirian Berhad in Kampung Sengkarai, Tutong District, was fined $1,000 BND for disposing of vegetable waste into public drains. The fine, resulting from a routine inspection by the Tutong District Office, must be settled within seven days to avoid prosecution.
