Paris: Minister of Finance Ahmed Kouchouk on Thursday, June 25, 2026, said that Egypt seeks to benefit from France's experiment in digitizing and simplifying government procurement procedures, while targeting closer cooperation with Paris in expanding the tax base and streamlining tax and customs procedures.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Kouchouk made these remarks during a meeting with French Minister of Public Action and Accounts David Amiel on the sidelines of the 2026 Paris Finance Forum. He emphasized that Egypt's fiscal policy has become more effective in supporting economic activity and promoting growth and development.
"Our fiscal policy has become more influential in driving the economic path and achieving growth and development, as we seek to strike a balance between stimulating economic activity and maintaining fiscal discipline and stability," Kouchouk said.
He further explained that expanding the country's economic, productive, export, and tax bases is a key priority to boost state revenues. "We have opened a new chapter of trust-based partnership with investors through successive packages of tax and customs incentives that offer practical solutions to real-world challenges," the Minister noted. He also highlighted that the private sector had responded positively to economic and fiscal reforms, with investments rising by 73 percent in the previous fiscal year.
Kouchouk underscored the importance of harnessing technology and artificial intelligence to improve and facilitate services provided to businesses and citizens. He pointed out that strong investment in human capital is crucial for any reform or modernization process to ensure sustainable and effective outcomes.
The Minister concluded by stating that Egypt is entering the new fiscal year with strong economic and financial performance, citing a significant primary surplus, a decline in the overall budget deficit, and a downward trajectory in the debt-to-GDP ratio.
