Following complaints from the public, the Department of Syar’iah Affairs, Ministry of Religious Affairs conducted an inspection on the Food Guru brand of pastry brushes sold at one of the business premises in the country. The manufacture of the item was deemed dubious and believed to contain non-halal ingredients. A sample of the brush was sent to the Department of Scientific Services, Ministry of Health for analysis, and the results of the analysis confirmed that it was made from animal hair, namely pig hair.
To safeguard the welfare of the Muslim community in the country, the Department of Syar’iah Affairs has instructed the owners of premises to immediately separate all the brushes from public sale. The Ministry of Religious Affairs also reminds owners, managers, entrepreneurs, traders, suppliers and importers of products and consumer goods in the country to be more sensitive to imported products and consumer goods that will be sold to the public in their supermarkets or stores by ensuring the halal products are not mixed with the non-halal.
