Groom’s Makeup and Stylist Workshop Highlights Cultural Preservation

Bandar seri begawan: In preserving the unique Malay wedding customs in the country, the role of a groom's makeup artist and stylist is vital in giving the groom the best appearance. It is not limited to dressing the groom; they must also be creative, skilled, and knowledgeable in the country's cultural and heritage items. The makeup artist and stylist workshop that was held recently provided an in-depth knowledge of the nation's decoration and dastar or traditional headwear.

According to Radio Television Brunei, the most important skill that every makeup artist and stylist must master is tying the dastar. In Brunei Darussalam, dastar is not just an ornamental headwear; it symbolizes status, custom, and etiquette. Tying a dastar requires a high level of precision, starting from ensuring the correct angle, all the way to how it is tied at the back so it looks immaculate throughout the ceremony.

Nearly 30 youths took part in the workshop, which covered makeup, identifying decorative items, and tying the dastar and sinjang. In line with the changes of time, this field garnered attention from the youth who will become the next generation to preserve the nation's culture and tradition.
