Diabetes is considered a ‘lifestyle disease’ as it is closely associated with being overweight or obese as well as having high cholesterol levels, among other contributing factors. These are related to unhealthy diet and having a sedentary lifestyle. The best way forward in preventing diabetes would be to adopt a healthy lifestyle, which includes having a regular healthy balanced diet, avoiding smoking and doing regular physical activities. In conjunction with World Diabetes Day 2022, last night’s News at Ten brings forth another Special Edition on the importance of understanding diabetes and knowing how to deal with the non-communicable disease.
In line with the Ministry of Health National Health Screening Guidelines, it is recommended that all adults aged 40 years and above should be screened for diabetes. But if they have any risk factors for diabetes, they should actually be screened at an earlier age.
