Bandar seri begawan: A local woman was charged before the Bandar Seri Begawan Magistrate's Court on 30th April under the Excise Order 2006. The 63-year-old, Fatimah binti Haji Mohammad, was found guilty of possessing 21 cartons and 5 packets of cigarettes of various brands. The accused was sentenced to a fine of BND21,100 or 13 months imprisonment in default.

According to Radio Television Brunei, the arrest was made by the Customs Prevention Officer, Bandar Seri Begawan Branch, Royal Customs and Excise Department, at a house in the STKRJ Tanah Jambu area on 23rd November 2023. All contraband, namely cigarettes and cash amounting to BND10, were seized for destruction.
