LPA, southwest monsoon to bring scattered rains Sunday

MANILA: The low pressure area (LPA) off Northern Samar province and the southwest monsoon or ‘habagat’ will continue to bring rains over parts of the country, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

The LPA was last seen 440 kilometers (km) east of Catarman town, Northern Samar.

There is still a low chance that the LPA will develop into a tropical cyclone in the next few days, the weather bureau said.

However, it will bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms in Eastern Visayas and Bicol regions, and Quezon province.

Meanwhile, habagat is affecting the western sections of Luzon, bringing cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over Ilocos Region and the provinces of Zambales and Bataan.

Metro Manila, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Occidental Mindoro, and Palawan may also see partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms due to the monsoon.

For the rest of the country, localized thunderstorms
are expected to bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms.

PAGASA warned of possible flash floods or landslides during severe heavy rains.

Light to moderate winds and slight to moderate seas will prevail across the country.
