NAIA Terminal 3 to undergo electrical maintenance June 19-21

MANILA: Another scheduled electrical maintenance has been set at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 from June 19 to 21, the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) announced Wednesday.

According to the MIAA Media Affairs Division, the south wing’s first and second level, chiller system, and surface and multilevel parking, are just among the areas that will be affected by the maintenance activity.

The maintenance activity will include several functionality tests and safety integrations into the existing systems, and passengers should expect “temporary interruption” with generator set as backup, as well as partial lighting.

Despite this, the MIAA said the activity was “meticulously planned” and will have “no or minimal effect to passenger and flight operations” and that generator sets will be used in areas under maintenance.

“All critical systems for continuous processing of passengers and flights will remain unhampered by the ongoing works,” MIAA Acting General Manager Eric Ines
was quoted as saying.

Meanwhile, in a radio interview Wednesday, MIAA head executive assistant Chris Bendijo admitted that there has been a problem with the baggage handling system at NAIA Terminal 3.

“There are spare parts that were damaged last June 12. We talked to the supplier yesterday (Tuesday). They said the UPS (uninterruptible power supply) also have problems since it’s already old,” Bendijo said.

He added there has been a high demand for baggage handling spare parts since after the pandemic, and the supplier is currently looking for a way to address the problem.
