Onset of Southwest Monsoon in Brunei Darussalam

Brunei darussalam: Brunei Darussalam has entered the Southwest Monsoon, which typically persists until September. During this period, atmospheric conditions tend to be more stable, resulting in fewer occurrences of thunderstorms compared to the inter-monsoon season. During the peak of the monsoon period, which is around August, the country usually experiences hazy conditions due to the generally dry weather across the Southeast Asian region.

According to Radio Television Brunei, the influence of tropical storm or typhoon systems nearby the region may lead to the formation of squall lines and can bring unsettled weather conditions. Based on climate model outlooks from international forecasting centres, large-scale atmospheric conditions, particularly the El Ni±o-Southern Oscillation (ENSO), are expected to influence regional weather patterns during the period from June to August 2026. In view of this, the long-range rainfall outlook from June to August is mostly slightly below normal. The Brunei Darussalam Meteorological Department will continue to monitor the weather conditions and issue weather advisories or warnings if necessary.
