Opening Ceremony of Brunei Darussalam Maritime Week 2025 Highlights Local Content Growth in Maritime Sector

Jerudong: The Maritime and Port Authority of Brunei Darussalam, MPABD, continues to increase efforts at further improving the local content aspects of the maritime sector. With the observed growth and further growth opportunities, the industry has the ability to grow the available job opportunities for locals. This was highlighted by Yang Berhormat Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Shamhary bin Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Mustapha, Minister of Transport and Infocommunications, as Chairman of MPABD, during the Opening Ceremony of the Brunei Darussalam Maritime Week, BDMW 2025. With the theme ‘Our Ocean, Our Obligation, Our Action’, the event took place at Bridex Hall in Jerudong.

According to Radio Television Brunei, the event also saw the launching of the Vessel Traffic Management System, VTMS, aimed at advancing the safety and efficiency of navigation. Additionally, scholarships were awarded through the Brunei Maritime Academy Cadetships Programme to 9 Bruneian cadets, marking a significant step in fostering local talent in the maritime industry.

The event featured 60 exhibitors, forums, educational programmes, and engagement activities designed to raise awareness, strengthen partnerships, and inspire lasting action. The event is open to the public until 3rd October, Friday, from 8 in the morning to 5 in the afternoon.
