PNP assures continued security for Aug. 5 class opening


MANILA: The Philippine National Police (PNP) assured Sunday of its continued security coverage for the Aug. 5 class opening. Several local government units postponed school opening on July 29 following the onslaught of Super Typhoon Carina and monsoon rains. PNP spokesperson and information chief Col. Jean Fajardo said police assistance desks have been put up to respond to safety concerns and to provide immediate assistance to schools. Foot and mobile patrols will be done around campus premises to prevent crimes as well as ensure swift action to possible incidents. 'Ang utos ng ating chief PNP na hindi lamang sa opening ng klase talaga masustain 'yung ating police visibility lalong lalo na doon sa paligid ng eskwelahan kaya naglagay tayo diyan ng ating mga (The order of our chief PNP is to sustain police visibility not only during school opening but in school premises so we put up) police assistance desks,' Fajardo said in a radio interview. Police officers must also coordinate with school officials to d iscuss security measures. The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) likewise reassured it would continue prioritizing safety and security throughout the school year. The NCRPO has strategically deployed almost 5,000 police officers around schools, set up 681 police assistance desks and coordinated with local government units for a comprehensive security approach.
