MANILA: The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Sunday said the ongoing operation against fugitive Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) leader Apollo Quiboloy is a legitimate one and fully backed by a warrant of arrest.
Quiboloy and five other KOJC members are facing charges of child abuse and human trafficking.
Courts in Davao City and Pasig City ordered their arrest.
The PNP stormed the KOJC compound in Davao City early Saturday morning.
PNP chief Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil said in a media release that political backers and supporters must “exemplify true leadership by advising Mr. Quiboloy to adhere to the rule of law and to address the accusations against him through the proper legal channels.”
“As a nation, we are all bound by the rule of law and we must uphold these principles without exception. This matter transcends legal obligations. It serves as a testament to the principle that no one is above the law,” he added.
Marbil said Quiboloy’s benefactors must understand that obstruction of justice, harb
oring a fugitive or being complicit in such actions are serious offenses and their support must underscore the necessity for clarity and responsibility.
He said the KOJC and its members need to align their actions with the teachings of the Bible.
“As stated in Romans 13:1, Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God,” Marbil said.
He also expressed the PNP’s condolences to the family of a male KOJC member who died during the operations on Saturday.
Reports said the fatality was stationed at one of the KOJC watchtowers for several days and lost consciousness.
Marbil said the national police remain steadfast in its commitment to enforcing the law fairly and justly, ensuring that justice is served for all.
Brig. Gen. Nicolas Torre III, Director of Police Regional Office-Davao, has deployed 2,375 cops to secure the 30-hectare compound.
