Producing Asnaf Entrepreneurs: PROPAZ’s Impact on Economic Independence

Bandar seri begawan: Since its introduction in 2007, PROPAZ has successfully produced skilled asnaf. The Minister of Religious Affairs explained that out of over 300 asnaf who completed the training programme, more than 60 percent have managed to generate their own sources of income.

According to Radio Television Brunei, the Minister highlighted that during the monitoring phase, 244 asnaf, which constitutes 56.3 percent, are no longer listed as applicants for zakat or assistance from the Department of Community Services, JAPEM. PROPAZ has been further strengthened in 2025 through an entrepreneurial skills programme supported by Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) and the establishment of the Asnaf Skills Centre. This initiative aims to produce independent asnaf entrepreneurs with stable incomes and the potential to become muzakki or zakat payers.
