MANILA: The southwest monsoon or habagat and localized thunderstorms will dampen most areas in the country Monday, the weather bureau said Monday.
Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) forecaster Obet Badrina said a tropical depression was spotted 1,100 km. west of Central Luzon, outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility.
He said it does not directly affect the country, but it enhances the habagat which will continue to bring rains until Tuesday. Mindanao, Western Visayas, Palawan, and Occidental Mindoro will have scattered rain showers and thunderstorms caused by habagat.
Moderate to heavy rains in those areas could result in flash floods or landslides, PAGASA said.
Habagat will also bring isolated rain showers or thunderstorms over the Metro Manila, the rest of Mimaropa, Batangas, Cavite, Laguna, and Bataan.
The same weather condition will prevail over the rest of the country due to localized thunderstorms.
Severe thunderstorms could also result in f
lash floods or landslides, according to PAGASA.
In a separate advisory issued at 11 p.m. Sunday, it said the southwest monsoon will bring moderate to heavy rains (50-100 mm) over Antique, Iloilo, Palawan, and Occidental Mindoro until evening Monday.
Under these conditions, flooding and rain-induced landslides are likely, especially in areas that are highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards and in areas with significant rainfall.
Moderate to strong winds and moderate to rough seas will prevail over the western sections of Southern Luzon, the Visayas, and Mindanao.
Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate with slight to moderate seas, PAGASA said.
