Red Tide Monitoring in Brunei Shows Improvement, Some Restrictions Lifted

Bandar seri begawan: Following a media statement issued earlier, the Department of Fisheries under the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism has been actively monitoring the red tide situation in the waters of Brunei Darussalam. This effort has been in collaboration with the Royal Brunei Armed Forces and the Marine Police of the Royal Brunei Police Force. According to Radio Television Brunei, recent monitoring and laboratory analysis conducted on February 27th have confirmed that the offshore and coastal areas of Brunei Muara District, Tutong District, and Belait District are now free from the red tide phenomenon. However, traces of red tide are still present at a low and controlled level in the waters between Muara and Tanjung Pelumpong. In light of these findings, the temporary ban on the sales and consumption of small fish such as aur-aur, tamban, basong-basong, pusu, kuasi, and bubuk has been lifted. Nonetheless, the ban on consuming all types of shellfish remains in effect. The public can now engag e in water activities in coastal areas. They are also encouraged to report any unusual water discoloration or large-scale fish deaths. The Department of Fisheries will maintain ongoing monitoring and provide timely updates to ensure the public receives accurate and current information on the red tide situation.
