Sultan of Brunei Advocates for AI and Cultural Industries at APEC Retreat

Gyeongju: His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, emphasized the importance of Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a key driver of future growth during the APEC Economic Leaders’ Retreat, Session Two in Gyeongju, Republic of Korea. His Majesty’s statements are consistent with Brunei Darussalam’s Digital Transformation Plan and the Smart Nation vision.

According to Radio Television Brunei, the Sultan noted that cultural and creative industries serve as catalysts for innovation and economic opportunity. He highlighted the need for inclusive support through access to finance, capacity building, intellectual property protection, and global market linkages to transform potential into tangible economic value. His Majesty was accompanied by His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Mateen at the event held at the Gyeongju Hwabaek International Convention Center.

His Majesty expressed support for APEC initiatives and partnerships focused on enhancing creativity and skills, building digital capacity, and promoting responsible AI innovation. He congratulated the Republic of Korea on its leadership of APEC this year and Malaysia for its ASEAN Chairmanship. He also conveyed confidence in the People’s Republic of China’s upcoming APEC Chairmanship in 2026.

The retreat concluded with President Lee Jae-myung of the Republic of Korea handing over the APEC Economic Leader’s Meeting Chairmanship to President Xi Jinping of the People’s Republic of China.
