Sultan of Brunei Holds Bilateral Talks with Vietnam’s Prime Minister

Bandar seri begawan: His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, engaged in a Bilateral Meeting with His Excellency Lª Minh Hung, Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam, on the afternoon of May 7th. Accompanying His Majesty was His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Mateen.

According to Radio Television Brunei, during the meeting, His Majesty expressed warm congratulations to Prime Minister Lª Minh Hung on his recent appointment and emphasized the importance of strengthening the friendship and cooperation between Brunei and Viet Nam. The two countries have maintained strong relations in trade, energy, and people-to-people exchanges.

His Majesty reflected on his State Visit to Viet Nam last year and productive discussions with President To Lam, then General Secretary of the Communist Party, in advancing their Comprehensive Partnership. He highlighted the necessity for both nations to collaborate in supporting each other and ensuring mutual security and prosperity.

In the meeting, His Majesty welcomed Viet Nam's interest in enhancing cooperation in the oil and gas sector, recognizing Viet Nam as a key energy partner. He also anticipated increased business linkages in the agri-food industry, aiming for a new trade target of 1 billion U.S. Dollars by 2030.

On a regional level, His Majesty reiterated Brunei Darussalam's commitment to work closely with ASEAN member states to uphold an open, inclusive, and rules-based multilateral system. Brunei will continue to support Myanmar in implementing the Myanmar-led and Myanmar-owned Five-Point Consensus. His Majesty extended an invitation to Prime Minister Lª Minh Hung to visit Brunei and expressed support for Viet Nam's upcoming APEC Chairmanship in 2027.
