Tropical Storm Expected To Influence the Country’s Weather


Brunei Darussalam is currently in the Southwest Monsoon which will typically persist until September. During the Southwest Monsoon, atmospheric conditions over the country tend to be quite stable with minimal thunderstorm occurrences compared to during the inter-monsoon period. As of 11 this morning local time, Tropical Storm Yagi was observed near Northern Philippines, approximately 1 thousand 400 kilometres away from Brunei Darussalam. Tropical Storm Yagi is forecast to move Northwestwards and away from the country. Tropical Storm Yagi is expected to indirectly influence the country's weather. Slightly windy condition is expected in the next few days, with showers or thundershowers to occur especially at sea. Wind speed of up to 50 kilometres per hour is expected during or near heavy thundershowers. Meanwhile over Brunei waters, sea state is generally at slight to moderate, with wave height of point 7 to 1 point 2 metres.
