Vietnamese traveler nabbed for unruly behavior at NAIA

MANILA: Immigration officers arrested a Vietnamese woman for unruly behavior at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Pasay City.

In a statement Wednesday, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) said 19-year-old Ban Thi Van initially submitted to immigration clearance procedures to board a Cebu Pacific Air flight to Hanoi at the airport’s Terminal 3 on Monday.

During inspection, Ban aggressively took her passport from the immigration officer and caused a scene by shouting and throwing herself on the floor.

She also reportedly streamed her outburst on social media and caused a disturbance in the immigration departure area.

Officers sought the assistance of the BI’s border control and intelligence unit, airport police, and the Philippine National Police (PNP) aviation security group after the incident.

After being pacified by female officers, Ban was brought to the BI’s head office in Intramuros for inquest proceedings and later transferred to the agency’s facility inside Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig pend
ing deportation.

Last month, another Vietnamese woman caused a disturbance at NAIA Terminal 3 by running bare-naked toward the final security checkpoint. She was assisted to return to her country.

Chinese investment scammer nabbed

Meanwhile, BI officers arrested a Chinese man wanted for economic crimes in his homeland.

Commissioner Norman Tansingco said Chen Xiao Bang, 29, was arrested in an operation by the BI’s fugitive search unit along Vito Cruz Extension, Barangay La Paz, Makati City on Tuesday.

He has been on the wanted list of the BI as he was ordered deported and blacklisted by the bureau last year for being an undesirable alien.

‘Thus, members of the arresting team were armed with a deportation warrant, which I signed pursuant to a summary deportation order that was issued against him by the board of commissioners,’ Tansingco said in a separate statement.

Chen is detained at the BI detention facility in Bagong Diwa, Taguig City pending deportation.

He is wanted by the Pudong branch of the Pub
lic Security Bureau in Shanghai, China for his involvement in an investment scam, which allegedly defrauded Chinese investors of more than 3 million Chinese yuan (more than USD412,000) since 2018.

A check of his travel record showed that Chen arrived in the Philippines on Aug. 25, 2019 and has not left since then.
