Brunei: Latest developments regarding water supply disruptions and low water pressure are affecting the Brunei Muara District and Tutong District. The Public Works Department, Ministry of Development informed that the electricity supply at the Bukit Barun Water Treatment Plant and Layong Water Treatment Plant has been fully operational since 7:30 in the morning on March 1st.
According to Radio Television Brunei, despite the repair work being carried out, the electricity supply system is still experiencing several repeated electricity disruptions from early in the morning until evening. This situation has caused the operation of the water treatment plant to be periodically disrupted, thus resulting in unstable water supply in several areas in the Brunei Muara District and Tutong District.
The water supply disruptions are not due to damage to the water supply system itself but due to unstable electricity supply. The electricity disruptions that have occurred several times have affected water pumping and distribution operations. Currently, the Department of Electrical Services is making every effort to stabilise the electricity supply, especially at the Bukit Barun Water Treatment Plant to ensure smooth and consistent operations. Once both electricity and water supply are stable, the process of filling the main tanks is being implemented and the restoration of water supply to consumers will be done in stages. Those living in low-lying areas are expected to receive supply earlier, while areas at high grounds or at the end of the pipe network may experience delays before the supply is fully stabilised.
The public is advised to continue to use water prudently throughout this restoration period to help speed up the system stabilisation process. Contact Talian Darussalam 123 for any complaints regarding water supply or for water tanker requests. The Public Works Department will continue to monitor this situation closely and any latest developments will be informed from time to time.
In another update, water supply disruptions also occurred in the Belait District, particularly in Mukim Labi and its surrounding areas. The Public Works Department is carrying out investigation works to identify the cause of the disruption and has taken appropriate actions to assist some of the affected areas.
In this regard, residents in the affected areas may obtain water supply from the blue water tanks provided at Mendaram Besar Longhouse, Melayan Longhouse, Labi Community Hall, Rempayoh Hall, and Teraja Longhouse.
