Handicraft products based on nature materials need to be dignified so that they do not disappear with time. In Temburong District, the woven handicrafts are still actively produced, especially by members of the Women’s Bureau of Village Consultative Council.
Dayang Siti Mariam binti Abdullah, Member of the Women’s Bureau of Lepong Baru Village Consultative Council is very active in rattan weaving. Started learning to weave using rattan 14 years ago and now she successfully producing various types and shapes of weaving including baskets, flower pots and the most attracting the attention is the keychain in ‘sumbui-sumbui’ shape. Although the weaving made of rattan is much more difficult than plastic weaving, it is still a choice due to its uniqueness. Rattan weaving takes five to seven days to complete depending on the type, size and shape produced.
