Brunei Ocean Week 2026 Highlights Private Sector and Youth Involvement

Brunei: The active involvement of the private sector and the younger generation in science, technology, and entrepreneurship is crucial for the growth of new fields such as fisheries sustainability, aquaculture, marine biotechnology, and eco-tourism. This was emphasized by the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism during the launch of Brunei Ocean Week 2026. The ceremony took place at Universiti Brunei Darussalam on the morning of May 2nd.

According to Radio Television Brunei, Dayang Hajah Tutiaty binti Haji Abdul Wahab highlighted the significance of the blue economy for ASEAN countries, emphasizing the need for collaboration in marine resource management and innovation. She noted that such efforts could shape the future of regional development. The event also featured the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between three international researchers and strategists from China and Timor-Leste. This agreement is expected to enhance research collaboration and marine sustainability initiatives in Brunei.
