Brunei Unveils Ambitious Digital Transformation Plan for 2030

Bandar seri begawan: The Digital Brunei Council has announced the launch of the Digital Brunei 2030: The Digital Brunei Transformation Plan, a comprehensive five-year national plan aimed at steering the country's digital growth through to 2030. The plan, approved by His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, is themed 'Together Towards a Digital Brunei'. It signifies the next chapter in Brunei's digital evolution, building on the Digital Economy Masterplan 2025 to support the long-term goals of Wawasan Brunei 2035. The plan integrates four national strategies within a unified framework: Digital Government Strategy, Digital Society Strategy, Digital Business Strategy, and the Data and Artificial Intelligence Strategy.

According to Radio Television Brunei, the masterplan was developed through a consultative process, which included the Digital Brunei Transformation Workshop held on 25 August 2025. It represents Brunei Darussalam's shift from establishing foundational digital capabilities to ensuring that investments yield measurable and lasting benefits for the economy, government, and society. The plan emphasizes coherence across ministries and agencies, bridging the public and private sectors, and aligning policy intent with execution. This approach aims to reduce fragmentation, enhance efficiency, and ensure that digital initiatives are complementary. The Digital Brunei 2030 plan will be implemented through national projects by 2030, such as the creation of an AI-Capable Data Centre, the rollout of a National Sovereign Cloud with AI compute capabilities, and the development of a Brunei-context National Large Language Model. The Co-Chairs of the Digital Brunei Council are Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Doctor Awang Haji Mo hd Amin Liew bin Abdullah, Minister at the Prime Minister's Office and Second Minister of Finance and Economy, and Yang Berhormat Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Shamhary bin Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Mustapha, Minister of Transport and Infocommunications.
