Berakas: Brunei Darussalam’s efforts to support Persons with Different Abilities, known as OKU, include not only actions that have been implemented but also provide a basis for broader initiatives. Among these are education, empowering jobs and the economy, and strengthening commitment. As a country guided by the principles of social equality and shared prosperity, the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports called on all sectors, including the public, private, corporate, and grassroots sectors, to be more sensitive to the needs of OKU.

According to Radio Television Brunei, at the opening ceremony of Brunei Darussalam’s First National Conference for OKU, Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Nazmi bin Haji Awang Mohamad emphasized that efforts should not just stop at providing allowances but also focus on changing systems, mindsets, and hearts. He stated that the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports supports long-term programs such as inclusive vocational training, social entrepreneurship schemes, and community-driven initiatives under the Fund for Persons With Different Abilities, known as TOKU. The opening ceremony was held at the International Convention Centre in Berakas.

In conjunction with the conference, the Outstanding OKU Award was presented to Dayang Nurul Huda Binti Awang Haji Muhin and the OKU in Service Award to Pengiran Datin Hajah Noraini Binti Pengiran Dipa Negara Laila Diraja Pengiran Haji Abd Momin, from Pusat Ehsan Al-Ameerah Al-Hajjah Maryam.
