Beijing: His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office, expressed gratitude to China for its ongoing support in the realm of sports, particularly in the training of wushu athletes. This acknowledgement was made during a meeting with His Excellency Gao Zhidan, Minister of the General Administration of Sport of China, at the General Administration for Sports of China (GASC) National Training Centre.
According to Radio Television Brunei, His Royal Highness highlighted the potential for expanded sports cooperation between Brunei Darussalam and the People's Republic of China. He emphasized Brunei's eagerness to learn from China's innovative methods in cultivating athletic talent. The Crown Prince noted the accomplishments of Bruneian wushu athletes in international competitions, such as the SEA Games and the World Junior Wushu Championships, and their significant contributions to Brunei's sports landscape. Upon his arrival, His Royal Highness was cordially received by the Minister of the General Administration of Sport of China.
During the discussions, His Royal Highness welcomed the mutual commitment of both nations to initiate Brunei-China wushu training camps, in line with the Bilateral Cooperation Plan of the Belt and Road Initiatives signed in 2025. This plan aims to enhance collaboration in sports development. Additionally, the Memorandum of Understanding on Sports Cooperation, signed during His Majesty's state visit to China in 2025, has established a robust framework for this cooperation. Following the meeting, His Royal Highness toured the Indoor Swimming Pool Complex and the National Team Performance Centre, where he was briefed on the advanced training technologies used to enhance the skills of Chinese athletes. He then visited the Sports Hall and witnessed a Wushu performance by students from Beijing Sports University. The GASC, founded in 1998, is a ministerial-level agency under the State Council of the People's Republic of China, responsible for the development and management of sports, including overseeing the All-Chi na Sports Federation and the Chinese Olympic Committee, and plays an instrumental role in cultivating Olympic athletes in China.
