Bandar seri begawan: Social development can only be achieved when all levels of society, including Persons with Disabilities (PWD), are given the space to speak, have a role, and contribute. It calls for establishing an ecosystem that is truly inclusive, encompassing PWD-friendly infrastructures, accessible communication, anti-discrimination practices, and policies that are responsive to their needs. The Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports highlighted the matter at the Doa Kesyukuran and Loving Al-Qur’an Ceremony, held on the afternoon of 3rd December at the Legislative Council Building in conjunction with the International Day Of Persons With Disabilities. Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Nazmi Mohamad said in support of this year’s celebration, the combined Doa Kesyukuran Ceremony and the Loving Al-Qur’an Ceremony are in line with efforts to raise awareness and strengthen appreciation towards PWD.
According to Radio Television Brunei, Yang Berhormat stated the approach recognizes that PWD are not seen simply as recipients, but as capable individuals who deserve recognition, opportunities, and support in all aspects of life.
The ceremony included a video clip presentation that highlighted the achievement and development of PWD in the country, mass Al-Qur’an reading, and a lecture titled ‘The Beauty of Al-Qur’an in the Life of Special Individuals,’ emphasizing that Al-Qur’an is a loyal companion of a Muslim that calms the heart, and serves as a source of guidance towards the right path as well as strength in facing trials and tribulations.
