Japan Supports Peaceful Resolution of Cambodia-Thailand Border Dispute

Phnom penh: The Government of Japan has expressed its commitment to a peaceful resolution of the Cambodia-Thailand border dispute, advocating for the full normalization of relations between the two countries, as conveyed by a senior Japanese diplomat.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the announcement was made by H.E. Hayashi Teiji, Japan's Ambassador for Mekong Cooperation, during a meeting held on June 1 in Phnom Penh with H.E. Lt. Gen. Rath Dararath, Secretary of State for the Cambodian Ministry of National Defence. The meeting focused on enhancing Japan-Cambodia defense cooperation and reaffirming the strengthening of bilateral relations.

During the discussion, H.E. Lt. Gen. Rath Dararath provided an update on the current border situation, emphasizing Cambodia's commitment to resolving the dispute peacefully, adhering to international law and existing bilateral agreements. He also acknowledged Japan's role in participating in ceasefire monitoring missions organized by the Military Attach© Corps in Phnom Penh (MACPP).

In response, Ambassador Hayashi reiterated Japan's position, confirming Tokyo's readiness to support all constructive efforts aimed at de-escalating the conflict and achieving fully normalized relations between Cambodia and Thailand.
