Serasa beach: Mangrove forests serve as crucial natural coastal defenses and significant carbon sinks. The Carbon Akar project, a mangrove restoration pilot, represents a significant advancement in environmental protection and the pursuit of shared sustainability goals. This project was launched at Serasa Beach on the afternoon of June 11 and aims to assist companies in measuring their greenhouse gas emissions while promoting climate action through mangrove restoration.
According to Radio Television Brunei, the project was inaugurated by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Doctor Awang Haji Abdul Manaf bin Haji Metussin, Coordinating Minister for Economic Policies and Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry. The launch event gathered government agencies, industry and technology partners, community members, youth, volunteers, and conservation stakeholders to support Brunei's first community-led mangrove restoration initiative. Organized by Poni Foundation with backing from Poni Group and ASTARI, the launch was part of Ocean Week Brunei 2026, coinciding with the Brunei Mid-Year Conference and Exhibition 2026.
