Bandar seri begawan: His Royal Highness Prince Doctor Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office, and Pro-Chancellor of Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB), officiated the launching of UTB’s 40th Anniversary Celebrations. The event took place on the morning of January 19 at Balai Khazanah Islam Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, where His Royal Highness was greeted by Yang Berhormat Datin Seri Setia Doctor Dayang Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Md Salleh, Minister of Education, and Datin Paduka Professor Doctor Dayang Hajah Zohrah binti Haji Sulaiman, Vice-Chancellor of UTB.
According to Radio Television Brunei, the ceremony began with the Reading of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa Selamat, led by Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Seri Utama Dato Paduka Seri Setia Awang Haji Salim bin Haji Besar. The Vice-Chancellor of UTB, in her address, emphasized that the celebration was a reaffirmation of UTB’s vision as a Global University of the Future. She highlighted the importance of recognizing collective achievements while renewing the commitment to excellence in education, research, innovation, and global involvement in support of Wawasan Brunei 2035.
His Royal Highness officiated the anniversary celebrations by presenting Special Awards. The ‘Jasawan UTB’ Award was given to 22 individuals, the Long Service Award to 13, and the Extraordinary Staff Award to 7 people. Additionally, His Royal Highness presented a prize for the winner of the UTB 40th Anniversary Logo Design.
In conjunction with the anniversary celebrations, UTB launched the Wakaf Mushaf UTB. Since its inception, UTB has transitioned from a technical institution to a leading technological university. The UTB Four Decades Exhibition showcased key achievements, institutional developments, and the university’s role in the technical and technological landscape.
The event also featured the launch of a commemorative book titled ‘The First 40 Years,’ themed ‘Enlivening Legacy, Empowering Innovation.’ The celebration marks the beginning of a year-long series of commemorative and academic initiatives.
