Muara: The Department of Fisheries, Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism, has announced the detection of a red tide phenomenon 40 kilometers offshore from Muara waters. The public has been cautioned against using water from the affected areas due to the presence of toxin-producing organisms that pose a risk to human health. According to Radio Television Brunei, the public, particularly fishermen, are advised to refrain from fishing or collecting shellfish in the impacted waters and to avoid consuming fish that are found dead in national waters. As a safety precaution, individuals are reminded to remove all gills, stomachs, and internal organs from fish before cooking. It is also advised not to consume small fish that cannot be properly cleaned or shellfish from the affected areas or of uncertain origin. The Department of Fisheries will continue to monitor the red tide situation and provide updates to the public as necessary. Fishermen and fish cage operators are encouraged to report any sightings of wa ter discoloration or large numbers of dead fish along the country's waters and beaches by contacting the hotline at 277 0066 during working hours or emailing '[email protected]'. The public is also urged to avoid sharing unverified information from unofficial sources.
