Kampung layong: A Dayak woman has chosen Islam as her new faith during a conversion ceremony held at Kampung Layong, Tutong District, on the afternoon of January 2nd. Ezza Harzirena Anak Enarati, who is now known as Nur Ezza Harzirena binti Enarati, was among those who embraced Islam in the presence of Yang Berhormat Awang Haji Mohamad Danial @ Tekpin bin Ya'akub, a Member of the Legislative Council.
According to Radio Television Brunei, from January to December 22, 2025, 265 new converts have been recorded. Statistics from the Conversion Unit of the Islamic Da'wah Centre reveal that Brunei Muara District saw the highest number of new converts, with 139 individuals embracing Islam. In comparison, Tutong District recorded 69 conversions, followed by 37 in Belait District and 20 in Temburong District.
In terms of ethnicity, the new converts include 75 individuals from the Dusun ethnic group, 61 from the Iban, 49 Chinese, 44 Filipinos, 21 from other races, and 9 from the Murut ethnic group. Additionally, three new converts each were from the Bisaya ethnic group and European descent.
The da'wah movement continues to be strengthened through propagation dissemination programs, which have contributed to the rise in the number of new converts in the country. Conversion guidance courses serve as a platform to ensure that new converts are well-supported and their faith is strengthened according to Islamic law. It remains a collective responsibility for Muslims to welcome and support new converts on their journey to discovering Islam.
