Bandar seri begawan: The public, particularly fishermen, are strictly prohibited from fishing or collecting shellfish in the waters affected by the red tide. The Fisheries Department, Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism emphasized this directive as the red tide phenomenon persists in the country's waters, impacting areas including offshore regions.
According to Radio Television Brunei, the Fisheries Department, in collaboration with the Royal Brunei Armed Forces, has conducted aerial monitoring of the red tide condition in Brunei Darussalam's waters. The phenomenon has not been detected in coastal areas, and the situation remains under control. Continuous monitoring has led the Fisheries Department to advise against the sale of small fish affected by the red tide.
The public is also urged to remove all gills, stomachs, and internal organs of fish before cooking. It is advised not to consume small fish whose gills, stomachs, and internal organs cannot be removed, as well as shellfish from affected or unknown areas. The Licensing and Enforcement Division of the Fisheries Department is actively conducting inspections at boat landing sites, markets, and other business locations to ensure that small fish and shellfish affected by the red tide are not sold. Monitoring efforts will continue to provide accurate and timely information to the public.
In cases of water discoloration or the discovery of numerous dead fish in the waters and beaches of Brunei Darussalam, individuals are encouraged to contact 277 0068 during office hours or email 'enquiryfisheries.gov.bn'.
