Singapore: The SEAMEO Regional Language Centres, RELC International Conference, recently took place in the Republic of Singapore, serving as a significant platform for educators and researchers worldwide. The conference focused on sharing practices and innovations in language teaching and learning. Yang Berhormat Datin Seri Setia Doctor Dayang Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Md Salleh, Minister of Education, attended the event in her capacity as the President of the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Council for the 2025-2027 term.
According to Radio Television Brunei, in her Opening Address, Yang Berhormat Datin highlighted the transformative role of Generative Artificial Intelligence as a "cognitive partner" in language education. She emphasized the importance of inclusivity, linguistic diversity, and sustainability. She urged participants to translate research into meaningful practice, ensuring that innovations remain human-centred and equitable.
An official engagement was also made at SEAMEO RELC, where Yang Berhormat Datin paid a courtesy call on His Excellency David Neo, Acting Minister for Culture, Community and Youth and Senior Minister of State for Education in the Republic of Singapore. The meeting aimed to strengthen bilateral relations and provide a platform for exchanging views on successful initiatives and shared interests in education, reflecting the commitment of both countries to produce a future-ready generation.
Additionally, Yang Berhormat Datin visited recipients of the Brunei Darussalam-Singapore Youth Education Scholarship at Victoria Hall, Republic of Singapore. During the visit, she encouraged the scholars to strive for academic excellence as young ambassadors of Brunei Darussalam while remaining firmly grounded in the values of Malay Islamic Monarchy, in preparation for their future roles as leaders. Accompanying the Minister of Education on the working visit were Her Excellency Hajah Noor Qamar binti Haji Sulaiman, High Commissioner of Brunei Darussalam to the Republic of Singapore, and Dr. Shamsiah Zuraini Kanchanawati binti Haji Tajuddin, Permanent Secretary for Core Education at the Ministry of Education.
